Warren’s double-double leads Women’s Basketball at Skyline-leading Mount Saint Mary

Old Westbury returns to campus Saturday (Jan. 11) for a Skyline Conference battle versus United States Merchant Marine Academy

NEWBURGH, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball dropped a 53-37 decision Wednesday evening against the Mount Saint Mary College Knights (9-3, 7-0 Skyline) in Skyline Conference road action inside Kaplan Center in Newburgh, New York.  With the setback, the Panthers (5-7, 5-2 Skyline) are now 2-4 on the road against the Knights since the 2015-16 campaign.

After trailing 20-2 in 10:14 of play,  La'Niya Clark knocked down a critical three-pointer at the 8:23 mark of the second stanza to ignite a 15-4 run to trim Old Westbury's deficit to seven, 24-17. Old Westbury and Mount Saint Mary traded baskets over the next 1:07 before Morina Bojka laid in two for the Knights to send the 30-21 game into the break.

Mount Saint Mary blew the game wide open in the third period by scoring 13-straight points from 8:20 to 5:22 to extend its lead to a game-high 22 points, 43-21.  The Panthers outscored the Knights 12-9 in the fourth quarter, headlined by Davida Warren scoring the team's last five points in the game's remaining 3:15, to settle the 53-37 final.

Warren led all scorers with 17 points (6-of-9 FG, 5-of-8 FT) and 15 rebounds to post her 28th-career double-double (eighth on the season) for Old Westbury.  She added three blocks and three steals to her statline. Ja'nya Flash followed with 14 rebounds.

Bojka finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds to pace Mount Saint Mary. Lyndsay Pace, Lauren Desrats and Annie Keenan each poured in 11 points.  Along with her scoring contribution, Keenan pulled down 14 rebounds and nabbed a game-high four steals.

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 27.8 percent (15-of-54) from the field, 16.7 percent (1-of-6) from three-point territory and 42.9 percent (6-of-14) from the free-throw line.  Mount Saint Mary finished the evening shooting 29.9 percent (23-of-77) from the field, 20 percent (6-of-30) from beyond the arc and 16.7 percent (1-of-6) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 52-45, while Mount Saint Mary scored 15 second-chance points off of 22 offensive rebounds. The Knights outplayed Old Westbury in assists (12-7), steals (16-8), points in the paint (32-26) and fastbreak points (12-4) while scoring 23 points off 26 Panther miscues. Old Westbury held the edge in blocks (4-3) and bench points (6-5).

UP NEXT:
