Quartet of double-digit scorers pace Women’s Basketball at St. Joseph’s (L.I.)

Old Westbury remain on the road Tuesday (Feb. 11) for a Skyline Conference showdown against Farmingdale State College

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.comSUNY Old Westbury women's basketball suffered an 84-73 Skyline Conference road loss to the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) Golden Eagles (8-13, 6-10 Skyline) Saturday afternoon inside Danzi Athletic Center in Patchogue, New York. The setback moves Old Westbury (8-13, 8-8 Skyline) to a 10-1 mark against St. Joseph's (L.I.) dating back to the 2014-15 season.
 
Trailing 19-17 after 10 minutes of play, Micah Browne scored three points for Old Westbury to claim the one-point lead, 20-19, with 9:03 remaining in the second stanza. Both teams battled for the advantage over the next 7:08 each holding a brief three-point leads which was capped by Megan Steinman's layup for St. Joseph's 35-32 lead. In the remaining 1:11, La'Niya Clark and Browne combined for the quarter's final seven points for the Panthers to send the 39-35 game into the break.
 
St. Joseph's claimed the narrow one-point lead (40-39) after Alyssa Admaites scored five-straight points with 8:28 left. Courtesy of a Paige Browne layup at the 7:12 mark, Old Westbury recaptured the four-point lead, 44-40. The Golden Eagles knocked down back-to-back three-pointers coming at the hands of Adomaites (6:48) and Julianna Knice (6:12) for the 46-44 lead before Browne sank a pair of freebies for the Panthers to make it a 46-all game with 5:40 left. At 4:52, Knice laid in two to ignite a 19-6 Golden Eagle surge to build the 13-point cushion (65-52), heading into the final quarter of play. Clark drained back-to-back triples to trim Old Westbury's deficit to seven (65-58) with 8:53 showing on the fourth-quarter clock. St. Joseph's responded with a 14-5 run from 8:05 to 4:00 to extend the lead to a game-high 16 points, 79-63. During the next 2:51, Ashley Cattle's six points headlined Old Westbury's final 10-3 spurt before Knice poured in two free-throws to settle the 84-73 final.
 
Clark finished with 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists to pace Old Westbury. Browne followed with a season-best 19 points (7-of-10 FT) to go along with seven assists and two steals. Davida Warren chipped in with 14 points (5-of-9 FG, 4-of-5 FT), game-high 17 rebounds (nine offensive) and three blocks to post her 35th-career double-double (15th on season). Cattle added 10 points, career-best 14 rebounds (nine offensive) and two blocks to register her second-career double-double.
 
Adomaites led the way with 27 points (8-of-16 FG, 6-of-11 3FG, 5-of-8 FT), five rebounds and three assists for St. Joseph's. Megan Steinman followed with 21 points (8-of-16 FG, 4-of-8 3FG). Knice contributed 17 points (5-of-9 FG, 5-of-5 FT), six rebounds, five assists and two steals while Catherine Siounis poured in 10 points (5-of-7 FG).
 
In the end, Old Westbury shot 34.6 percent (27-of-78) from the field, 28.6 percent (6-of-21) from beyond the arc and 72.2 percent (13-of-18) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, St. Joseph's connected on 48.4 percent (30-of-62) from the floor, 50 percent (12-of-24) from three-point territory and 63.2 percent (12-of-19) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 51-38, scoring 30 second-chance points off 28 offensive rebounds. St. Joseph's outplayed Old Westbury in assists (19-14), steals (9-8) while scoring 24 points off 18 Panther turnovers. Old Westbury held the edge in blocks (7-1), fastbreak points (10-8), bench points (10-7) and points in the paint (34-18).
