FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – SUNY Old Westbury softball (0-2, 0-2 Skyline) clashed with the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Bears (4-2, 3-2 Skyline) and dropped a pair of Skyline Conference decisions at home on Saturday by scores of 10-2 and 15-7, respectively.
Game 1 (6 Inn.): St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) 10, Old Westbury 2
After a scoreless opening inning, the Bears scored a trio of runs in the road half of the next frame including a two-run double to left center by Casey Bennett (2-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 R) off of Panther starter
Christina Hassett (L, 0-1: 6 IP, 12 H, 10 R, 8 ER, BB, 2 K).
In the fourth inning, St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) compiled another three runs including a two RBI triple by Nicole Trani (1-for-2, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB) to extend their lead.
After three more runs scored in the top of the sixth inning, the Panthers responded in the home half and scored their first run of the game off of Bear starter Jessica Mecham (W, 2-1: 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, BB, 4 K) when
Amanda Neenan reached on an error by Trani that scored
Johanna Metz (1-for-2, R, BB).
Kristen Ulmer then smacked a sacrifice fly out to right field that brought home Metz which would ultimately settle the 10-2 final.
Game 2 (5 Inn.): St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) 15, Old Westbury 7
In the opening inning, the Bears wasted no time as they went on to score five runs off of Panther starter
Christina Hassett (L, 0-2: 3.1 IP, 19 H, 15 R, 13 ER, 2 K) that was highlighted by a two RBI double by Alexis Buchanan (2-for-4, 3 RBI, 2 R).
The Panthers quickly countered as Metz scored on a wild pitch by Bear starter Allison Kaspar (ND, 0-1: 2 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, K). Ulmer (2-for-3, 2 RBI) then slapped a double to left field that scored
Julianne Sucre (0-for-0, 2 R, 3 BB) to slash their deficit to three (5-2) to conclude the opening inning.
After the Bears scored a pair of runs in the top of the second frame, the Panthers responded with two more runs including a single to left field by
Angelina Chaves (2-for-3, 2 RBI) that plated Metz to make the score 7-4 in favor of the visiting team.
The Bears ultimately strung together eight more runs en route to the 15-7 decision.
