Softball concludes three-game Skyline Conference series against St. Joseph’s College (Brooklyn)

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – SUNY Old Westbury softball (0-3, 0-3 Skyline) closed out a three-game Skyline Conference series against the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Bears (5-2, 4-2 Skyline) but fell in a 5-2 road decision.

The Panthers broke the scoring ice in the opening inning as Christina Hassett (2-for-3, RBI) brought home Kristen Ulmer (2-for-3, 2 R) on a fielder's choice off of Bear starter Jessica Mecham (W, 3-1: 7 IP, CG, 9 H, 2 ER, BB, K).

In the top of the third frame, Old Westbury doubled its lead as Angelina Chaves (3-for-4, RBI) smacked a double down the right field line that brought home Ulmer to make it a 2-0 game.

After tossing three scoreless innings, Panther starter Hassett (L, 0-3: 5.2 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 3 K) surrendered an RBI single that came off the bat of Arianna Heinsch (3-for-3, RBI, R).

The Bears completed the comeback and registered four more runs in the home half of the sixth inning that was highlighted by a two-run double by Ashleigh Hartwig (2-for-4, 2 RBI) to secure the 5-2 victory.
