FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – SUNY Old Westbury baseball (6-1, 5-1 Skyline) secured a 5-0 Skyline Conference victory over the visiting St. Joseph's College (L.I.) Golden Eagles (2-4, 2-4 Skyline) on Monday afternoon.
The Panthers broke the scoring ice in the opening inning as
Oscar Fajardo reached base on a fielder's choice that brought home
Shaun Kaminski off of Golden Eagle starter Daniel Deckert (L, 0-2: 7 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, BB, 3 K).
Panther starter
Patrick Quinn (W, 1-0: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 5 BB, 8 K) was stellar on the mound in his 2021 debut as he shut down the Golden Eagles by firing eight strikeouts. In the top of the fifth inning, he found himself in a bases loaded jam but Quinn made Mike Badala ground into a fielder's choice at second base to keep the shutout intact.
In the home half of the fifth inning, the Panthers added another run to their total as
Brandon Wilson (3-for-4, RBI, R) smacked a single up the middle that brought home
John Dell'Olio (2-for-3, 3 R, BB) to make it a 2-0 game in favor of the home team.
Old Westbury would break the game open as they registered a trio of runs in the home half of the eighth inning including an RBI single by
Drew Robertson and a two-run single by Shaun Paprocki off of Golden Eagle relief pitcher Elliot Robles (ND, 0-0: 1 IP, 4 H, 3 ER) that ballooned their lead to five (5-0).
Relief pitcher
Eddie Guzman (SV, 1: 3 IP, H, 0 R, 5 BB, 8 K) tossed three scoreless innings and recorded the final out by striking out Justin Stromski to settle the 5-0 final to secure his first-career save.
