PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – SUNY Old Westbury softball (0-8, 0-8 Skyline) took on the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) Golden Eagles (10-3, 8-3 Skyline) on the road but dropped an 18-4 (5 Inn.) Skyline Conference decision on Monday.
St. Joseph's (L.I.) took the lead in the opening inning as they put up four runs including a pair of run scoring doubles that were hit to left center field by Ashley Accardi (2-for-2, 2 R, 2 RBI) and Jenna Kreiling (1-for-2, 3 RBI, BB) off of Panther starter
Christina Hassett (L, 0-8: 2 IP, 10 H, 10 R, 6 ER, 0 BB, 0 K).
The Golden Eagles continued to add to their run total as they compiled six runs in the second and third innings. Lauren McKenna (4-for-4, 6 RBI, 3 R, 2 3B) slapped a two-run triple in the second and a three-run triple in the third to swell their lead to 16 (16-0).
The Panthers still battled as
Kimberly Basile (1-for-2, 2 RBI, 2B) slapped a double up the middle off of Golden Eagle starter Patricia McGloin (W, 5-2: 4 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) that allowed
Johanna Metz (1-for-2, R, BB) and Hassett (2-for-3, R) to touch home and make it a 16-2 game.
In the road half of the fifth inning, Old Westbury's
Kristen Ulmer scored on a wild pitch and
Lillian Chiauzzi hit a sacrifice bunt that plated home
Mallory Moretti but that would end up as the final run of the game that allowed the Golden Eagles to settle the 18-4 victory.
