Women's Basketball Defeated by Yeshiva

The Old Westbury women's basketball team was defeated by the Yeshiva Maccabees by a score of 75-70 on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers are now 7-12 overall, 6-11 in Skyline conference play.

Ja'nya Flash scored her thirteenth double-double of the season with 23 points and 12 rebounds. She leads the Skyline in rebounds, averaging 15.2 per game. Cherish Francis, who was honored for Senior Day, scored 22 points including four three-pointers. Melinda Harris added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Panthers.

Four Yeshiva players scored double-digit points for the win. Daniella Bessler led the Maccabees with 16 points and nine rebounds. Daniella Rothman and Yuval Nitzan each scored 15 points, and Shai Rahamim contributed 13 of her own.

Both teams played even through the first half with the score tied 15-15. Yeshiva held a five point lead at the half. After a back-and-forth battle through the second half, a layup from Cherish Francis tied the score for the Panthers at 70-70 with 48 seconds remaining in the game. Yuval Nitzan scored the go-ahead basket on a three-pointer with 42 seconds left for the Maccabees.
