The Old Westbury baseball team was swept by Stevens Institute of Technology in Friday's doubleheader. The Panthers fall to 0-7 on the season, and will face John Jay College (0-8) on Sunday, March 13th before opening up Skyline play on March 15th against Yeshiva.
Game One: Old Westbury 1, Stevens 11
Stevens scored first in the bottom of the second inning when
Patrick Quinn (4 IP, 7 H, 3 ER) gave up a two-run home run by Christian Kreiser (2-for-4, 3 RBI), scoring Thomas Paulich (3-for-3, RBI, 3 Runs) who led off the inning with a single to right field.
Old Westbury answered back with a run in the top of the third.
Aaron Castillo (1-for-2) reached on a single down the left field line, and advance to third on a double by
Jamal Ritter (2-for-3).
Drew Robertson (1-for-3, RBI) brought Castillo home on a single through the right side, before
Jacob Ford (0-for-3) grounded into a double play to end the inning.
The Panthers went scoreless through the last four innings, as the Ducks tacked on eight more runs. Four defensive errors by Old Westbury allowed for five unearned runs in the game.
Game Two: Old Westbury 3, Stevens 16
Joseph Lubrano (2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 4 BB) took the start on the mound in the second game for Old Westbury. The Panthers escaped bases loaded with one out in the first inning, as Lubrano struck out Hunter Silvernail (1-for-3, RBI) and then caught Brett Mendez (2-for-4, RBI) attempting to steal home.
Stevens had a three-run second inning starting with a lead-off double from Thomas Paulich (2-for-3, 3 R) and an RBI ground out by Ryan Finegan (1-for-3, RBI). Two wild pitches and a balk allowed two more runs to cross the plate in the inning.
Frank Whitenack (1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 BB) entered the game to pitch for the Panthers in the bottom of the third inning. Three hits by the Ducks, and a throwing error at third base allowed for six runs, five unearned, in the inning for the home team
Old Westbury scored their first runs of the game in the top of the fifth inning.
Drew Robertson (2-for-3) led off the inning with a walk, and
Jacob Ford (1-for-4) followed with a single to left field.
Oscar Fajardo (2-for-4, 3 RBI) then hit his second home run of the season to bring home three runs for the Panthers.
Stevens added on five runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth. In relief for Old Westbury,
Kyle Issing allowed five runs on five hits and three walks, and
Rohan Raju gave up two runs on two hits.
