Old Westbury Holds Off Lehman College

The Old Westbury baseball team earned a non-conference road win against Lehman College on Thursday afternoon. The Panthers move to 9-20 overall and return to conference play on Sunday against St. Joseph's College Brooklyn at 12 PM in Farmingdale.

In a game that totaled 31 runs scored, the Panthers took the edge 17-14. Old Westbury got on the scoreboard first with five runs in the first inning. Two walks and a hit by pitch loaded the bases with no outs. Oscar Fajardo (0-4, RBI, R) hit a ground out to second base to score Jamal Ritter (1-5, 2 RBI, 2 R), and Drew Robertson (1-3, 3 RBI, 2 R) followed with a two RBI double to right field. Paul DePaulis (1-2, 2 RBI, 2 R) later hit his second home run of the season to score two more.

Lehman scored a run in the bottom of the second and Old Westbury scored one in the top of the third, before tacking on eight runs in the top of the fourth inning. Ritter hit a single to center field to score Dominic Felicetti (0-1, R) and DePaulis, who both walked earlier in the inning. Shaun Kaminski (3-4, 3 RBI, 3 R), who continues to lead the team with a .475 average, hit a two RBI double, and later scored on a fielding error. Patrick Schriffen (1-5, RBI, R) hit an infield single for an RBI, and Jesse Borgia (1-2, RBI, 2 R) had a sacrifice fly.

Lehman closed the gap with six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Four walks given up by Old Westbury and six hits allowed six runs to cross the plate for the home team. Old Westbury and Lehman each added two more runs in the seventh inning. Lehman scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to come within three runs, before Shaun Kaminski entered in the ninth for the save opportunity and recorded a 1-2-3 inning.
