Seniors Get Victory in Celebratory Send Off

Old Westbury, New York | October 18, 2023 |  The SUNY Old Westbury Panther women's soccer team celebrated its seniors in style with a 5-1 victory over Purchase College.

SENIOR DAY CELEBRATION

Before the game, six graduating players were honored for the effort, leadership and spirit each showed during their careers at Old Westbury.

  • Victoria Voboril
Victoria anchored the team's defense for five years, starting in each season. Selected a team captain this year, she has earned a place on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll and has career totals of six goals and four assists.

"Tori is a team player and has demonstrated critical thinking as a positive member and leader for our team," said Head Coach Betty Bohringer. "Her skill and leadership will be missed on and off the field."

A Public Health major, she will graduate in December and is currently working as a patient care coordinator.

  • Natalie Intrieri
Natalie's senior season was her second year as a starting player, having joined the team along with her being an athlete on the softball team.  Selected as a captain this season, she played primarily goalkeeper. When not in goal, she contributed at the midfield position.  Natalie scored her first goal this season and as keeper has a 63% save rate ratio.

"Natalie's desire for competition is outstanding and her critical thinking skills are exemplary," said Bohringer. "She is a hard worker and OW is honored by all of Natalie's efforts on our soccer team."

Natalie is majoring in criminology and pre-law and plans to attend graduate school in the area of education.

  • Mia Almonte
Mia is five-year player and four-year team captain. She has played midfield, forward and defense. She earned Athletic Director's Academic Honor Roll status and Skyline conference accolades last year. Mia will complete her career at Old Westbury as the fifth-leading goal-scorer in program history.

This year, she has been named a Skyline  Conference Offensive Player of the Week once along with multiple appearances on the conference's weekly honor roll.  This season, Mia is first in Skyline for assists and second in points, behind teammate Alyse Then.

"Mia has been an exemplary soccer player and leader who thrives on competition," said Bohringer. "She plays every game as if it is her last and we will miss her intense work rate every day.

With graduation expected in December, this Psychology major aspires to be either a paralegal or school psychologist – and perhaps a soccer coach.

  • Jessica Pedroza
Jessica has been a three- year starter, playing center midfield. To date, Jessica has amassed 18 goals and 12 assists during her tenure on campus. This season, she is a Skyline conference leader, ranking sixth in assists and 11th in points.

"We have been very fortunate to have her play making and possession abilities that control the flow of the game," said Bohringer." Her creative play, efforts and heartfelt intensity will be missed."

An Athletic Director's Academic Honor Roll member, she is majoring in childhood education and aspires to become an elementary school teacher.
  • Jennifer Zeron-Salmeron
Jennifer  is completing her fourth year as a starter and has one remaining season of eligibility. Significantly, she has led the way in preparing the team's defensive units each year on the team, as changes occurred annually.

"Jen is a knowledgeable and skilled player," said Bohringer. "Her leadership has led to the many offsides calls we've earned this season.

Jen also devotes time to coaching youth soccer players. She is majoring in Business Administration and will be graduating in May.

  • Mikayla Crosier
Mikayla is completing her second year after transferring from Suffolk Community College. Playing at forward, she has exhibited a high-level skill at controlling the ball out of the air and delivering passes to teammates on time and on target. She has career totals, to date, of six goals and three assists.

"Kayla is a dedicated player and teammate," said Bohringer. "We have always been able to count on her bringing 100 percent effort to the team every day as she works with our other forwards to generate Panther scoring opportunities."

Mikayla is  majoring in Criminology and hopes to work as a police officer in a K-9 unit.
