OLD WESTBURY, NY – The SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball team was taken down by the Bard College Raptors on Tuesday night by a final score of 72-44.
The Panthers struggled in this one as their offense could not seem to get things going throughout the game. The team struggled to move the ball and control the ball on several of their possessions.
The game got off to a tough start for the Panthers as Bard opened the game with the first eight points, unanswered. The first Panther points of the night would come five minutes into the game thanks to a mid-range jumper from
Amadi Lee-Kane.
After that, the Raptors would go on a run and quickly get out in front, leading the Panthers by 13 points just over the midway point in the half.
The largest lead of the first half for the Raptors was 19 points. Bard went into halftime ahead by a score of 35-18.
Bard did not step off the gas at all as they only continued to grow their lead as he second half progressed. The Raptors scored off of Panther mishaps and missed shots. The Raptors possessed their largest lead of the game, 31 points, in the final minute of the game.
Despite the overall struggles of the Panthers there were some big performers individually.
Chris Smith led Old Westbury in scoring with 12 points. Smith also had three rebounds and five steals.
Amadi Lee-Kane continued to be a presence for OW as he had 11 points, 10 rebounds, and a block.
As for the Raptors, there were numerous players who had big nights in the stats column. Harris Elliot was the game's leading scorer. Elliot ended the night with 27 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Elliot shot 66 percent from behind the arc and hit an impressive eight of 12 three-point shots. Sean Wilcox also had an impressive night as he finished the game with nine points and nine rebounds. Wilcox also had two blocks defensively.
All in all, the Panthers were out performed by the Raptors of Bard College. The team will shift their focus towards their next game which will be on the road at the Christopher Newport Tournament. The tournament will take place from December 28-29.
