NEWPORT NEWS, Va – The SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball team fell to New Jersey City University in the consolation round of the Captains Shootout Tournament by a final score of 89-70 on Friday.

Despite their loss, this was the highest offensive performance of the season for the Panthers.

The Panthers kept things close in the opening minutes, however NJCU gained momentum and gradually gave themselves a comfortable lead.

At the midway point of the first half, the Knights led the Panthers by 12, by a score of 30-18. The first half would feature more of the same, as the Panthers tried to jump out of their shooting slump and find a way to stop the Knights. The first half came to a close with NJCU in the lead, with a score of 44-29.

The Panthers played a much cleaner half and were only outscored by four points in the period. The Knights would not lose much ground on their lead, as they controlled the game and pace of play throughout. NJCU defeated Old Westbury by a final score of 89-70.

Despite their loss, the Panthers hit shots and showcased an effective offense. The Panthers' leading scorer was Amadi Lee-Kane who had one of his best showings of the season. The Knights saw their scoring in more of a committee fashion with many of their players touching the lower end of double-digits. Hakeem Wilson was the Knights' leading scorer. Wilson had 16 points, five rebounds, nine assists, and six steals.

All in all, the Panthers fought hard in this one as they faced some tough competition throughout the tournament. Amadi Lee-Kane was named to the All-Tournament team for his showing over the two days.
