Men's Basketball Taken Down by St. Joseph's University Long Island on Tuesday Night

OLD WESTBURY, NY – The SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball team lost a hard-fought game to the St. Joseph's University-Long Island Golden Eagles on Tuesday night by a final score of 81-66.
 
The game was close for the majority of the first half and the beginning of the second half.
 
The first basket of the game was scored by the Panthers, courtesy of Jordan Johnson-Rader. That basket set Johnson-Rader over the 500 point mark in his collegiate career. Both the Panthers and the Golden Eagles would trade baskets back and forth. That said, the Panthers stayed out in front around the midway point in the first half.
 
The Golden Eagles pulled it to even with just under 90 seconds in the half. The two teams entered halftime tied with a score of 28-28.
 
As the second half got going, the Panthers scored the first points of the half. That said, from there, the Golden Eagles would begin a large run. Near the midway point in the second half, the Golden Eagles were able to push their lead to 11.
 
The Panthers would cut the Golden Eagles' run and close the gap to just one possession thanks to a fastbreak layup and made free-throw from Jamari Williams. The Golden Eagles would get hot again and that ignited yet another run. The Golden Eagles held their lead and defeated the Panthers by a final score of 81-66.
 
Despite the outcome, the Panthers played this one close and gave themselves a shot towards the end. Chris Smith led the Panthers in scoring with 17 points. Smith also had four rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Joshua Jackman had an impressive showing himself as well. Jackman had 15 points and four rebounds. Jordan Johnson-Rader led the Panthers in rebounding with 14 boards on the night.
 
As for the Golden Eagles, they found their shots when they needed them to fall. The game's leading scorer was Alec Tabada. He finished with 23 points, six boards, three assists, three blocks and five steals. Xavier Allen also had a good night with 20 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and two steals.
 
The Panthers shot just under 35 percent from the floor and just under 27 percent from behind the arc. As for the Golden Eagles, they shot just over 48 percent from the floor and struggled from three with a shooting percentage of 10 percent.
 
OW will look to bounce back as the team prepares to take on the University of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday, January 6. The game will begin right after the women's matchup in the Clark Center Gymnasium.
