Men's Basketball Falls Short Down The Stretch Against The Bears of St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn on Tuesday Night

BROOKLYN, NY – The SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball team fell to the Bears of St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn on Tuesday night by a final score of 79-71. 
 
The Panthers battled in one of their closest games of the season but in the end were unable to regain their lead over the Bears. The matchup saw five total lead changes and came down to the final minutes of the second half. 
 
The game off to a hot start for the Panthers as the team found themselves ahead by six points, nearing the 13-minute mark in the first half. The lead came thanks to a layup to open the game from Jordan Johnson-Rader, a three-point shot from Tim Park and a three from Joshua Jackman
 
From there, the two teams traded baskets and the lead changed sides a couple of times. The game was tied midway through the first half at 12-12. 
 
The Panthers would lead for the rest of the first half. Old Westbury went into halftime with a five-point lead over the Bears. The score at the break was 31-26. 
 
As the second half got underway, the Panthers remained in control. The team would take their largest lead in the game, just two minutes into the final period. After layup from Johnson-Rader who was assisted by Jamari Williams, the Panthers led the Bears by 10. 
 
St. Joseph's-Brooklyn began to mount their comeback around the 16-minute mark. Thanks to a pair of three-pointers and a jump shot, the Bears tied the game at 42-42 with 14 minutes to go. 
 
The threes kept falling for the Bears as they hit a big time three point shot with just under 11 minutes left to swing the momentum. The Panthers could not get their shots to fall down the stretch and struggled to stop the offensive pressure from the Bears. 
 
Despite their effort, and a close game until the very end, the Panthers could not overcome the Bears three-point shooting. The Bears defeated the Panthers by a final score of 79-71. 
 
Amadi Lee-Kane led the Panthers in scoring yet again. Lee-Kane finished with 19 points, four rebounds, and five assists. Chris Smith played well, finishing the night with 12 points, five rebounds, and a block. Joshua Jackman continued his stretch of strong play and was the team's leading rebounder. Jackman recorded 10 points, nine rebounds, two assists and a block. 
 
As for the Bears, their leading scorer was Jonathan Reno. He was on fire from three-point range as he cashed in on six three-point shots. Reno finished the game with 30 points, two rebounds and two steals. Adam Jasaraj was pivotal in the Bears' defensive gameplan as he recorded five steals. Jasaraj also racked up 10 points and 14 rebounds. 
 
The Panthers finished with 17 turnovers as a team, allowing the Bears to score 21 points off turnovers. 
 
Old Westbury shot 48 percent from the floor throughout the game as well as 39 percent from three-point range. As for St. Joseph's-Brooklyn, they shot 40 percent from the floor and 28 percent from behind the arc. 
 
Despite the loss, the Panthers turn their attention towards their next matchup which will bring them to Purchase, NY. The team will take on another Skyline Conference rival, Purchase College, in a battle on Saturday, January 13. The game is set to tip-off at 12pm.
