Men's Basketball Defeated by Purchase College

PURCHASE, NY – The SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball team was defeated by the Purchase College Panthers on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 90-74. 
 
Old Westbury could not seem to get things going throughout this one and Purchase could not be stopped offensively. 
 
OW got out of the gates first, scoring the first points of the game. From there, the two sides traded baskets, with neither team taking much of a commanding lead. 
 
As the game approached the midway mark in the first half, the Panthers of Purchase began to take their lead that they would hold for the remainder of the game. 
 
At the half, Purchase was ahead by 21 points with a score of 53-32. 
 
Despite winning the second half in scoring, with a mix of turnovers and offensive struggles, the Panthers of Old Westbury could not find a way to stop the scoring spree of Purchase. In the battle of the Panthers, Purchase College emerged victorious over Old Westbury by a commanding 90-74 final score. 
 
For Old Westbury, several players saw scoring in double figures. Amadi Lee-Kane was the team's leading scorer. Lee-Kane finished the day with 18 points, six rebounds and an assist. Jamari Williams scored 14 points and had four boards, two assists and two steals. Jordan Johnson-Rader recorded 12 points, three rebounds and a steal. 
 
Purchase's leading scorer was Matthew Phillips. He ended the game with 15 points, four rebounds, and a block. Desmond Ward had 10 rebounds and also put up seven points. Another key contributor for Purchase was Rashid Nikiema. He finished with 13 points, four rebounds and three assists. 
 
As a team, OW shot 46 percent from the floor and 35 percent from three-point range, connecting on seven of 20 shots from deep. Purchase ended the day with a shooting percentage of 43 percent and 48 percent from behind-the-arc. 
 
Old Westbury next take on Manhattanville College on Tuesday night for another Skyline Conference matchup. The game will take place in the Clark Center Gymnasium and is set to begin at 7pm.
