Men's Basketball Defeated in a Tough Fought Battle Against the University of Mount Saint Vincent

OLD WESTBURY, NY – The SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball team fell to the University of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins in a close matchup by a final score of 79-70 on Saturday.

The Panthers played the Dolphins close all day but, in the end, were unable to stop the offensive attack of the Dolphins.

In the first half, the Panthers struck first with Jamari Williams hitting a pair of shots at the free-throw line. The two teams would then trade baskets for some time, but OW found themselves in the lead, ahead by seven points just about three minutes into the game.

As the first half approached the midway mark, OW still held onto their lead and were up five, thanks to a nice three-point shot from Tim Park.

The Panthers continued to lead in the first half, as the clock struck zero, the Panthers went into halftime ahead by five points and a score of 47-42.

In the second half, neither team scored a basket until about two minutes in. The Dolphins began to build some momentum as the game approached the final ten minutes but the Panthers were very much in the fight. With a little over ten minutes remaining in the game, the Dolphins reclaimed the lead with a free throw from Connor Wein.

From there, the Dolphins continued to pile on the points, and grow a lead that OW would be unable to overcome. After struggling to connect on shots and stop the Dolphins down the stretch, the Panthers were defeated by a final score of 79-70.

Despite the outcome, this was still a hard-fought game for the Panthers. Jamari Williams led the team in scoring, finishing the night with 21 points, six rebounds, eight assists, a block and a steal. Tim Park had an impressive day for himself. Park recorded 19 points, five rebounds, six assists, a block, and a steal. Jordan Johnson-Rader put up 18 points, four boards, three assists and two steals.

As for the Dolphins, their leading scorer was Kevin Agyemang. He finished with 22 points, three rebounds, and two assists. DJ Tucker had 17 points, four rebounds, six assists, and a steal on the day.

The Panthers shot 50 percent from the floor throughout the game and 33 percent from three-point range. The Dolphins shot 40 percent from the floor and 38 percent from behind the arc. Both teams seemed to limit their turnovers in this one as each team had ten.

Throughout the close-fought matchup, there were seven lead changes and two times where the score was tied.

Old Westbury will next play on Tuesday, January 9. The team will head to Brooklyn as they are set to take on St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn in another Skyline Conference matchup. That game is set to tip-off at 7pm.
