Women's Basketball Suffers Loss to the University of Mount Saint Vincent

OLD WESTBURY, NY – The SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball team was taken down by the University of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins this afternoon by a final score of 85-47.
 
The game got off to a close start, but the Dolphins opened it up in the second quarter.
 
Sierra Rowe hit a three-point shot to open the scoring in this one. From there, both the Panthers and Dolphins traded baskets back-and-forth for the most part. The first quarter came to a close with a score of 21-16.
 
In the second quarter, the Dolphins outscored the Panthers by 18 points. Cheyennerose Hoxie  hit the only basket for the Panthers in the quarter. The score at the midway point was 44-21 in favor of the Dolphins.
 
Coming out of the break, the Dolphins maintained their lead and piled on more points. Fatigue would set in for the Panthers as they would struggle to defend the Dolphins well. The third quarter closed with a score of 62-34.
 
In the final quarter of play, the Panthers were outscored by 10 points. The Dolphins would win this one comfortably by a final score of 85-47.
 
Despite the loss, Phalan Smith had a strong game. Smith finished with 16 points, five rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal. Kasiobi Okenwa continued her strong play with nine points, eight boards, and a steal. Tyela Davidson would also finish the day with eight rebounds.
 
As for the Dolphins, the leading scorer of the game was Magan Jackson. She had 22 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Amber Been scored 16 points and shot 50 percent from the floor.
 
The Panthers shot the ball just over 31 percent from the floor and 19 percent form behind the arc. As a team, the Panthers committed 33 turnovers, allowing the Dolphins to hit 35 points off turnovers.
 
Next up, the Panthers will travel to take on St. Joseph's University-Long Island on Wednesday, January 10. The game will tip-off at 7pm.
