Men's Soccer Defeated by Maritime on Saturday Afternoon

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer team fell to the Mariners of Maritime College on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 2-0.
 
The Panthers fall to 4-8-1 overall on the season and hold a conference record of 1-7.
 
Maritime got on the board quick as they scored their first goal just under seven minutes into the match. Maritime found their first goal thanks to Alex Arriola who fired a shot from the right of the box past the Panthers' keeper.
 
The Mariners would defend their lead and go into halftime with the 1-0 advantage over the Panthers.
 
In the second half, Old Westbury could not overcome the Maritime defensive stand. The Panthers took 10 shots all together in the second half but could not find the back of the net.
 
Maritime scored their second goal with just about seven minutes to play in the match as Jude Callan scored off the post.
 
The Mariners would finish out the game and defeat the Panthers by a final score of 2-0.
 
For the Panthers, the team took a total of seven shots on goal. Roobens Celine, Tiago Tirado, Jessi Vasquez, and Henrik Ropstad each had at least one on-target shot attempt.
 
In net, Andy Chacho got the start and finished with four saves. Chacho faced 26 shots with seven being on net.
 
Next up, the Panthers will return home for a non-conference match with SUNY Delhi on Wednesday, October 16. The match will take place at Panther Park and is set to begin at 3:30 PM.
