Men’s Soccer Holds On to Defeat SUNY Delhi on Wednesday

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer team was victorious on Wednesday as the team faced off against the Broncos of SUNY Delhi. The Panthers won by a final score of 2-1.
 
The Panthers now move to 5-8-1 on the season with a Skyline Conference record of 1-7.
 
Old Westbury found itself on the scoreboard first just under 18-minutes into the game. The Panthers' opening goal came thanks to Chris Chimbo who scored off a nice assist from Ryan Persaud.
 
With a 1-0 lead, the Panthers defended their side of the field well limiting the Broncos to only five shots in the first half.
 
Just under 30 minutes in, the Broncos answered and tied the game. The Broncos scored as John Walsh was assisted by Roberto Velasquez-Osorio.
 
The Panthers and the Broncos went into halftime tied, 1-1.
 
In the second half, the Panthers took the advantage once again as Henrik Ropstad scored courtesy of an assist from Christian Mathurin.
 
With the lead, in front of a packed crowd, the Panthers held on despite several key opportunities in the late moments for SUNY Delhi. The Panthers defeated the Broncos by a final score of 2-1.
 
Henrik Ropstad took two shots on goal and three total shots. Ropstad scored his fifth goal of the season. Chris Chimbo scored a goal on two total shots. Chimbo found the back of the net for the first time this season.
 
In goal, Andy Chacho finished the game with eight saves after facing 15 total shots and nine shots on goal.
 
Next up, the Panthers will return to action on Saturday, October 19 as fellow Skyline Conference rival Farmingdale State College comes to town. The game will take place at Panther Park and is scheduled to begin at 12 PM.
