Women’s Volleyball Defeated by Brooklyn Despite Close Third Set on Monday Night

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury women's volleyball program was defeated by the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College on Monday night, 3-0.

With this loss, the Panthers fall to 4-11 overall on the season and maintain their conference standing of 1-5.

Throughout the night, the Panthers struggled to match the intensity and attack of the Bulldogs. Brooklyn took the first set by a final score of 25-11. It was the Bulldogs dominant attack, featuring 14 kills that overcame the Panthers. In the first set, Old Westbury recorded seven kills as a team.

In the second set, it was more of the same as Brooklyn managed to put up another 13 kills compared to the Panthers' four. The Bulldogs walked away with the second set by a score of 25-12.

The third set was the most competitive of the night for the two sides. It was down to the wire as neither team would quit. With a narrow lead down the wire, Brooklyn was able to overcome the 13 OW kills and take the final set by a score of 25-22. Brooklyn won the match, 3-0.

Stephanie Maser led the way once again for the Panthers offensive efforts. Maser finished the night with nine kills, and five digs. Stephanie Velez had seven kills. Geanelle Sam had a strong night as she recorded four kills, one ace, three blocks and 17 assists.

Next up, the Panthers will return to conference play as the team will play host to the Mariners of Maritime College on Wednesday, October 23. The match will take place in the Clark Center Gymnasium and will begin at 6 PM.
