Women’s Volleyball Falls to Sarah Lawrence in Home Opener on Thursday Night

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury women's volleyball team was taken down by the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence on Thursday night. The Gryphons defeated the Panthers, 3-0.
 
Old Westbury moves to 3-5 on the season with a 1-2 record against Skyline Conference opponents.
 
The first set went in favor of the Gryphons. Sarah Lawrence amassed a total of 11 kills while the Panthers' attack was only able to secure five.
 
Old Westbury's eight errors would be a factor in the first set defeat.
 
The Gryphons would win the first set of the night by a final score of 25-10.
 
In the second set, the Panthers recorded eight kills as a team. Old Westbury stayed in the fight for a good portion of the set but could not overcome the powerful Sarah Lawrence attack. The Gryphons would walk away with the second set victory by a final score of 25-15.
 
In what would be the final set of the night, the Panthers played one of their most contested sets of the night.
 
Old Westbury recorded their most kills of the night with nine. Despite their attacking efforts, Sarah Lawrence overpowered them and would take the final set by a score of 25-22.
 
Despite their efforts, especially late, the Panthers fell to the Gryphons, 3-0.
 
Stephanie Maser led the team once again in kills as she finished with 12 and also had a block. Stephanie Velez also had a strong game as she recorded seven kills and 13 digs.
 
Nicole Zugnoni finished the night with two blocks. Geanelle Sam had one kill, one ace, one block and 18 assists.
 
Next up, the Panthers will hit the road again for a tri-match with Albertus Magnus and Elms on Saturday, October 5. The tri-match will be hosted by Albertus Magnus and will take place in New Haven, CT. Old Westbury is scheduled to play Elms first at 1 PM followed by a match with Albertus Magnus at 3 PM.
