Men's Soccer Taken Down by USMMA Under the Lights on Friday Night

KINGS POINT, N.Y. — The SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer team fell to the United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners by a score of 2-0 on Friday night.
 
The Panthers now have an overall record of 4-6-1, while holding a conference record of 1-5.
 
The first half of the match was an even contest with Old Westbury on top early, as they had the first two shots on target within the first 20 minutes of the match. USMMA would settle in and the half would end scoreless.
 
USMMA started the second half hot, scoring two goals within the first 12 minutes of play. That would be enough to close out the game for the Mariners. The Panthers would end with four shots on target while the Mariners had 12.
 
The final score was 2-0 in favor of USMMA.
 
It was a strong game from Panther Goalkeeper Paul DeGennaro who recorded 10 saves in the game. Henrik Ropstad also had a strong game with two shots on goal in just 52 minutes of action.
 
Up next for Old Westbury is another road trip to take on Skyline Conference foe, St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn. The Panthers won the last matchup between the two by a score of 1-0. The match will be played on Wednesday, October 9.
