Men’s Basketball Comes Up Short Against Brooklyn on Wednesday Night

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball team fought hard until the end but was defeated by the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College. The final score was 79-68 in favor of the Bulldogs.

The Panthers now fall to 3-2 overall on the season.

The two sides went back and forth as the game saw 13 total lead changes. Old Westbury got off to an efficient start thanks to two buckets from Jamari Williams and a layup from Amadi Lee-Kane

Around the midpoint in the opening half, the Panthers opened a six-point lead thanks to a fastbreak layup from Tim Waite

Brooklyn answered with offensive pressure allowing the Bulldogs to cut the Panthers lead to just two points with slightly over a minute to play in the half.

Stephon McGill connected on two back-to-back fastbreak layups for Brooklyn to give them the lead with 59 seconds remaining.

After Lee-Kane scored another big layup, Zion Williams cashed in on a three-pointer to give the Panthers the halftime lead. At the half, the Panthers led the Bulldogs, 41-38.

Coming into the second half, the Panthers looked sharp offensively. The team opened things the same way as they did in the first half as Lee-Kane and Williams hit layups in the paint. Lee-Kane then extended his range and hit from behind-the-arc to give the Panthers and eight-point advantage.

The Bulldogs managed to work their way back into the game as they tied it at 51-51 with just about 15 minutes to play.

From there, neither side was able to pull away by a comfortable margin until Brooklyn's 11-0 run with just about three minutes to go that put them up 74-66.

The Panthers were unable to cut the late deficit and would fall to the Bulldogs by a final score of 79-68.

On the night, the Panthers shot the ball 41 percent from the floor, 19 percent from three-point range and 60 percent from the free-throw line. OW committed a total of 14 turnovers while forcing 17.

Amadi Lee-Kane led the team in scoring and recorded a double-double. Lee-Kane finished with 27 points, 10 rebounds, one assist, and two steals. Jamari Williams had a strong night as he finished with 15 points, eight boards, four assists, one block and two steals. Jaden Flemming finished with eight points, and six rebounds.

Next up, the Panthers will remain at home and play host to the Cardinals of York College on Tuesday, December 10. That game is scheduled to tip-off in the Clark Athletic Center at 6 PM.
