Men's Basketball Unsuccessful as Late Efforts Fail Against St. Joseph's University-Long Island

PATCHOUGE, NY – The SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball team suffered another loss to the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's University-Long Island on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 61-50. 
 
The Panthers stayed in the game as both teams were competitive throughout. The lead changed hands 15 times.  
 
Old Westbury got things going first as Amadi Lee-Kane went 2-2 from the free-throw line. From there, both sides kept things to within just about one possession. The teams traded baskets until about the midway point in the half. At that point, the Golden Eagles scored a layup that put them ahead by five.    
 
With six minutes remaining in the first half, Aiddan Smith nailed a three-pointer to cut it back to a one possession game. The Golden Eagles went down and had an empty possession and on the next Panther possession, Jamari Williams hit a jumper, closing the gap to just one point. 
 
At the close of the first half, the Panthers trailed the Golden Eagles by just two points, 31-33. 
 
As the second half got underway, the Golden Eagles struck first offensively with a three-pointer of their own. The Panthers responded with points of their own, closing the gap again to just a possession. With 14:30 to go in the game the Golden Eagles controlled the lead and from there would lead for the rest of the game. 
 
The Golden Eagles began to walk away with a lead as a result of a couple of mistakes on behalf of the Panthers. The Golden Eagles walked away with this one in the final minutes. The Golden Eagles defeated the Panthers by a final score of 61-50. 
 
For the Panthers, Amadi Lee-Kane led the way in scoring. Lee-Kane finished with 19 points, two rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Jamari Williams finished the game with 13 points, nine rebounds, one block and a steal. Aiddan Smith saw some increased playing time and finished the game with 11 points. 
 
The Golden Eagles had several top finishers. The game's leading scorer was Alec Tabada, who finished with 28 points, 10 points, two blocks and a steal. Spencer Malloy finished the game with 11 points, nine rebounds, and two assists. Terrin Roy recorded nine points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. 
 
Throughout the game, the Panthers shot the ball 32 percent from the floor, 24 percent from behind-the-arc, and 62 percent from the free-throw line. The Golden Eagles shot 39 percent from the floor, 20 percent from three-point range, and 50 percent from the free-throw line. 
 
Despite their efforts, the Panthers are still on the hunt for their first win of the season. The team will next see the court at home as the Panthers will play host to the Bears of St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn. The game will tip-off at 6pm in the Clark Center Gymnasium.
