Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's Volleyball Defeated Twice in Doubleheader Against Bryn Athyn on Saturday Afternoon

BRYN ATHYN, P.A. -  The SUNY Old Westbury men's volleyball team played a doubleheader against the Lions of Bryn Athyn College on Saturday. The Panthers were defeated in both matches, 3-0. 
 
Match One- SUNY Old Westbury (0) - Bryn Athyn (3)
 
The Panthers struggled to keep up with the Lions in nearly every set of the first game. In the first set, OW played from behind for nearly the entirety of the set. The Panthers recorded only three kills as a team and committed a costly four errors. The Lions won the first set, 25-15. 
 
The second set featured more of the same. The Lions managed to pick up the first five points of the set, unanswered. Old Westbury rallied back for a little but to no avail. The Panthers lost the second set 25-19. 


In what would be the match's final set, the Panthers finished with four kills and seven errors as a team. The errors and miscues combined to help the Lions defeat the Panthers 25-14 and win the match 3-0. 
 
Anthony Moyett led the team in kills with five. He also had a service ace, two assists, and 17 digs. Kosta Anagnostou finished the first game with seven set assists and a block. First year player Donovan Johnson recorded two kills. 
 
Match Two- SUNY Old Westbury (0) – Bryn Athyn (3)
 
The second game of the day featured much of the same. The Panthers turned things around in the third set of the second game, but it would be too little too late. 
 
The first set was controlled by the Lions from the start. The two teams went at it, but it would be the Lions coming out with the first set victory. Despite the early set loss, the Panthers finished with six kills and four errors as a team. 
 
In the second set, the two teams were within reach of one another for a bulk of the set. The Lions would go on a 5-0 run in the late going and eventually pulled away as the Panthers were unable to respond. The Lions took set two by a final score of 25-17.
 
The final set was the closest of the day for the Panthers. The two sides went back-and-forth throughout the set. With the score 23-18 the Panthers were within striking distance. Unfortunately, the Panthers could not close the gap. OW was defeated by Bryn Athyn in the final set, 25-20 and 3-0 in the match. 
 
Anthony Moyett continued to dominate the stat column for Old Westbury. Moyett finished the game with 11 kills, two service aces, one block, and six digs. Ashel Santos had seven kills of his own. He also had a service ace and five digs. Val Holmes recorded another block in this one. 
 
As a team, the Panthers finished the second game with 22 kills, three aces, two blocks, 19 assists and 35 digs.
