Men's Volleyball Overcome by New Jersey City on Monday Night

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The SUNY Old Westbury men's volleyball team was overcome by the Knights of New Jersey City University on Monday night, 3-0.

The Panthers failed in each of the three sets and struggled, especially on the attack against a strong NJCU defense.

In the first set, the Panthers only managed to record one kill, and put up seven points. The Panthers committed seven errors as a team and allowed NJCU to open the set with a 9-0 lead. The first Panther points of the night came on a bad set by NJCU.

The Knights went on several more multi-point runs throughout the rest of the set and would ultimately walk away with the opening set victory, 25-7.

The second set was the Panthers most aggressive offensively. OW finished with four kills in the set. Despite the increased efforts by the Panthers, the Knights were able to easily take the second set, 25-15.

In what would be the night's final set, the Knights controlled the lead from the start. The Panthers allowed the Knights to score 13 straight unanswered points. Seven of the Panthers' 10 points came because of NJCU errors. Anthony Moyett handed the remaining three points to the Panthers as a result of the three lone kills of the set. The Knights won the third set, 25-10 and defeated the Panthers in the match, 3-0.

Despite the result, Anthony Moyett led the team in kills and aces with six and one, respectively. Ashel Santos had one kill and one assist. Kosta Anagnostou finished the night with four assists and a kill. Libero Jose Lorenzo Santos recorded 14 digs throughout the match.

Next up, the Panthers will hit the road again where they will face off against the University of Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday, March 13. The match will begin at 6 PM. The Panthers will return home on Saturday, March 16 for a tri-match with St. Joseph's-Long Island and Purchase.
