Women's Lacrosse Taken Down by Wells College on Sunday Afternoon

Box Score PATCHOUGE, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse team was defeated by the Wells College Express on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 14-1.

The Panthers' second game of the year was hosted by OW at the St. Joseph's University-Long Island Athletic Complex due to field conditions.

The game's scoring got going will an Express goal just three minutes into the game. Wells called a timeout immediately after the play to regroup. The Panthers were able to take advantage as a couple minutes later, they put one through the net. Phoebe Scheu scored the first goal of the day for OW off a nice assist from Joann Williams.

Both sides went back and forth with limited shots on goal for the following possessions.

Wells scored their second goal of the game to go up 2-1 with just over four minutes to play in the first quarter.

The Express scored another goal in the final minute of the first quarter. Wells held on to posses the lead through the end of the first quarter, 3-1.

The second quarter's first goal was scored by Wells just two and a half minutes in, growing the Express' lead, 4-1. A few possessions later, Wells would connect on another free-position goal.
Wells managed to score a goal while a player down as a result of a yellow card. With a little under six minutes remaining in the first half, the Express led 6-1.

The Panther's defense struggled late in the first half as Wells compiled three goals in the closing minutes of the second quarter.

Going into the second half, Wells led by eight goals with a score of 9-1.

Wells' Logan Lomonaco scored her fourth goal of the game on a free-position shot just two and a half minutes into the second half.

With the game using a running clock, the Express entered the final quarter of play with the lead, 12-1.

The Panthers struggled offensively in the late going and could not find the net throughout the rest of the game. Wells defeated Old Westbury 14-1.

For the Panthers, Phoebe Scheu scored the lone goal. Joann Williams recorded an assist and finished the game with three shots. Goalkeeper Kathleen Mackey allowed 14 goals and had nine saves.

Next up, the Panthers will travel to take on Albertus Magnus College in their first road trip of the season on Wednesday, March 12. The game will begin at 4 PM.
