Women's Lacrosse Picks Up Their First Victory of the Season With a Statement Win Against Albertus Magnus

NEW HAVEN, CONN – The SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse team secured their first win of the 2024 season with a dominating victory over Albertus Magnus. The Panthers won the game, 15-1.

The scoring was plentiful for OW with Joann Williams getting things going with the first Panther goal just 24 seconds into the game. The two sides then went back-and forth for some time. Williams connected on another goal just about four minutes into the first quarter after Geanelle Sam had a nice assist.

Albertus Magnus scored their first and only goal of the game with 8:27 remaining in the first quarter.

With a 2-1 lead, the Panthers next goal came from Natalie Garcia who was assisted by Sarah Boubert.

Garcia then opened the second quarter with another goal of her own. Williams cashed in on two more goals throughout the second quarter while Sam and Boubert each scored a goal in the quarter.
Williams scored the first goal of the second half for the Panthers followed by Garcia.

With a 10-1 lead, the Panthers next goal came from newcomer Jen Pasquariello, this would be her first collegiate lacrosse goal ever.

Katherine Campbell scored a nice goal to round out the third quarter scoring for the Panthers growing the team's lead to 12-1.

In the fourth and final period of play, Williams, Sam, and Campbell would all score yet another goal.

In the end, the Panthers were able to easily walk away with their first victory of the season by a final score of 15-1 over Albertus Magnus.

Joann Williams led the charge for the Panthers finishing the game with six goals. Geanelle Sam recorded three points consisting of two goals and an assist. She also had one successful draw control. Katherine Campbell finished the game with two goals. Natalie Garcia amassed four points made up of three goals and an assist. Sarah Boubert led the team in draw controls with six. Boubert also scored a goal and had two assists giving her three points on the day.

In the net, Kathleen Mackey finished with three saves allowing only the one Albertus Magnus goal. Albertus Magnus only took seven shots compared to OW's 37.

All in all, it was a strong outing for the Panthers, giving them their first win of the year. The team will next face off against Cedar Crest College at home on March 23. The game will take place at Panther Park on SUNY Old Westbury's campus and will begin at 1 PM.
