Softball Gets the Sweep Against Yeshiva on Monday; Ramos Tosses Perfect Game

BRONX, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury softball team got the job done on Monday night, sweeping the Maccabees of Yeshiva University in both ends of the conference doubleheader. 
 
The final scores of the two games were 16-0 and 17-0, respectively.
 
Game One- SUNY Old Westbury (16) – Yeshiva (0)
 
The Panthers came out strong, putting up seven runs in the top of the first inning. Ashley Pierce and Madison Muehling both doubled to drive in two RBIs each while Hillary Bennet also had a double and an RBI. 
 
Ahead 7-0, the Panthers scored four more runs in the top of the second inning. Gianna DiLillo had a big-time 2 RBI single to right field. Angelina Fernandez notched her second hit of the day with a double down the left field line to record another RBI. 
 
In the top of the third inning, both Alaina Reilly and Madison Danin had RBI singles. Amanda Varela entered the game to play right field and recorded her first double of the season, scoring two runs. 
 
With the score 15-0 at the end of the third inning, the Panthers added one more run in the top of the fourth. The run came by way of first-year Christina Ravo who had a single to third base, allowing Julia Pastrana to score.   
 
The Panthers walked away with the game one victory by a final score of 16-0 in just five innings of play. 
 
Natalie Intreri went 2-2 at the dish with a double and a run. Alaina Reilly finished the game with one hit, two runs and an RBI. Ashley Pierce had a strong finish, amassing two hits, two runs, two RBIs and a double. Madison Danin was another top performer for the Panthers. Danin went 2-2 at the plate, scoring two runs and recording an RBI. Gianna DiLillo had three RBIs on one hit. 
 
Amanda Varela and Madison Muehling each finished the game with one hit and two RBIs. Julia Pastrana who entered the game later on to play first base finished the game with two hits in two at-bats. Hillary Bennet had an impressive game as she went 2-2 with a double and two RBIs. 
 
In the circle, Layla Ramos tossed a perfect game. Ramos faced all 15 batters and struck out eight. Ramos threw a total of 46 pitches. 
 
Game Two- SUNY Old Westbury (17) – Yeshiva (0)
 
The Panthers had yet another strong game in the final game of the matchup. 
Alaina Reilly came out of the gates hot with an RBI triple. In the following at-bat, Ashley Pierce launched an RBI double to left field. Madison Danin, Gianna DiLillo, and Juliana Vasquez followed Pierce with RBI doubles of their own. 
 
Hillary Bennet launched a three-run home run over the fence to put the Panthers ahead 8-0. 
 
As the first inning came to a close, the Panthers led 9-0. 
 
The second inning scoring came courtesy of a DiLillo single a Morgan Albright double Heather Dillon drawing a walk to score a run and another Reilly single. At the close of the second inning, the Panthers led 13-0. 
 
The Panthers scored only one run in the fourth inning courtesy of Faith Binaso who walked to draw in another run. 
 
OW scored three more runs in the top of the fifth inning to close out the game. Those runs came thanks to Jenna Gaspa who reached on an error, an RBI single from Vasquez and a double from Heather Dillon. That hit was Dillon's first career double. 
 
The Panthers took the victory in game two by a final score of 17-0. 
 
In the second game of the day, Natalie Interieri went 2-2 with a double and a run. Heather Dillon and Alaina Reilly each recorded two RBIs. Reillly had a double and a triple. 
 
Ashley Pierce had another strong outing with two hits on three at-bats with two RBIs and a run. 
 
Madison Danin had a three hit game as she finished with three doubles, two runs and an RBI. Juliana Vasquez also had three hits as she scored three runs and had two RBIs and two doubles. 
 
Gianna DiLillo went 2-2 with two RBIs. Jessica Tucci had a strong outing finishing the game with a hit and two runs. 
 
Hillary Bennet went 1-1 at the dish and had the three-run homer. 
 
The pitching duties were split to secure the shutout. Julia Pastrana started the game. Pastrana faced seven batters and struck out five, allowing only one hit. In relief, Hailey Ragozine threw two innings. Ragozine allowed only one hit as she picked up three strikeouts. The final pitcher for OW was Taylor Murphy who threw an inning. Murphy struck out all three batters that she faced.  
 
Next up, the Panthers will return home to the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex where they get set to host Baruch College. The game will take place, tomorrow, April 16 at 4 PM and 6 PM. Following that, the Panthers will return to conference play and host St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn on Friday night, April 19.
