Women's Lacrosse Falls to Cedar Crest in Overtime on Thursday Night

 
OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse team was defeated by the Falcons of Cedar Crest College in overtime on Thursday night by a final score of 10-9. 
 
The Panthers were in control to start the game. OW scored the first goal of the contest thanks to Joann Williams
 
OW's defense held strong, and the Panthers exited the first period ahead, 1-0. 
 
Williams continued her strong outing with two goals to start the second quarter. Both goals were assisted by Sarah Boubert
 
Cedar Crest scored their first goal of the day with just over two minutes to go in the first half. The Panthers held a 4-1 lead at halftime. 
 
The third quarter was filled with scoring for both sides as they each connected on four goals. 
 
The Panthers' goals were from Boubert, Williams (two goals), and Katherine Campbell. Old Westbury led 8-5 at the close of the third quarter.
 
Old Westbury began to struggle defensively as the team made several costly errors in the fourth quarter.
 
Boubert scored a man-up goal less than a minute into the fourth period. Following that goal, Cedar Crest responded with four straight goals to send the game to ovetime. 
 
In overtime, the Panthers missed several opportunities to put the game away. It was Cedar Crest who hit the golden goal to take the victory by a final score of 10-9. 
 
Joann Williams had another strong game for the Panthers. Williams finished with five goals, one assist, one ground ball and three draw controls. Sarah Boubert recorded two goals, three assists, four ground balls and two draw controls. Stephanie Velez had two caused turnovers on the defensive side of the ball. 

In net, Kathleen Mackey had another strong showing. Mackey finished the night with 15 saves.
 
Next up, the Panthers will return to conference play as the team gets set to host Maritime College on Saturday, April 20. The game will take place at Panther Park and is set to begin at 1 PM.
