Women's Lacrosse Defeated by Maritime on Saturday Afternoon

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse team was defeated by the Mariners of Maritime College on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 19-2.

The Panthers struggled from the opening moments of the game to match the Mariners' offensive intensity.

Maritime scored eight unanswered goals before OW scored their first of the game. The Panthers first goal of the game came with just under two minutes left in the first quarter. Sarah Boubert put one through the net to close the gap to 8-1.

A short time after, still in the first quarter, Boubert connected on another goal for the Panthers.

The Mariners held a 10-2 lead at the close of the opening period.

The game went in favor of the Mariners for the rest of the way as their offense exploded through the second half.

Maritime put up a total of 19 goals and defeated OW by a final score of 19-2.

Sarah Boubert led the way for the Panthers with two goals on four shots on goal. Ava Savino had five ground balls and caused two turnovers. Isabella Recine had three draw controls for the Panthers on the afternoon.

Goalkeeper Kathleen Mackey played only the first half and finished with 11 saves.

Next up, the Panthers will play their final home game of the season on Wednesday, April 24 at 3:30 PM as the team welcomes Mount Saint Mary to Panther Park.
