Softball Sweeps Purchase On Saturday Afternoon, Taking Both Games in Mercy Rule Fashion

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury softball team swept the Panthers of Purchase College on Saturday afternoon. The final scores of the two five inning games were 8-0 and 11-0, respectively. 
 
The Panthers advance to 17-9 on the year and 7-5 in conference play. 
 
Game One- SUNY Old Westbury (8) – Purchase (0) [Five Innings]
 
The Panthers of Old Westbury got things going early in the scoring column as Natalie Intrieri scored in the bottom of the first inning on a wild pitch. Madison Danin would have an RBI single through the left side, allowing Alaina Reilly to score from third. 
 
In the same inning, Angelina Fernandez had an RBI ground out, scoring Danin. The highlight of the inning came when Madison Muehling tripled to right center field, scoring both Gianna DiLillo and Taylor Murphy
 
At the close of the first inning, Old Westbury had a 6-0 lead. 
 
Both sides remained fairly quiet until the fourth inning when OW tacked on two more runs. Muelhing continued her strong showing with an RBI double to right center, scoring Phylicia Cangemi who pinch ran. Later in the same inning, Reilly added another double to her season total scoring Muehling. 
 
The Panthers of Old Westbury held on to defeated Purchase in five innings by a final score of 8-0. 
 
Madsion Muehling had a great game going 2-2 with three RBIs and two runs. Alaina Reilly finished the game with two hits, one run, an RBI and a stolen base. Madison Danin continues to shine at the plate as she finished with a hit, an RBI and a run. Angelina Fernandez also finished the game with an RBI. At the dish, Gianna DiLillo went 1-2, scoring a run. 
 
In the circle, Layla Ramos continued to shine. Ramos pitched all five innings, facing 17 batters. Ramos allowed only two hits and struck out one. 
 
Game Two- SUNY Old Westbury (11) – Purchase (0)
 
In the day's second game, the Panthers of Old Westbury had saw an offensive explosion later on in the game. 
 
Things got going in the first inning when Gianna DiLillo had an RBI single allowing Alaina Reilly to score. The Panthers would hold a 1-0 lead until the bottom of the fourth inning. 
 
Old Westbury left their mark in the bottom of the fourth inning when the team amassed a total of 10 runs in the side. 
 
Madison Muehling scored when Jenna Gaspa reached on an error. Juliana Vasquez then had an RBI single through the left side, scoring Jessica Tucci
 
Later in the inning, The Purchase Panthers walked Reilly to drive in a run. 
 
Old Westbury completed a triple steal, allowing Vasquez to steal home and score a run. 
 
A few at-bats later, Ashley Pierce blasted a three-run homerun over the left field fence. 
 
Later in the inning, Muehling had another RBI single allowing Cangemi to score. 
 
OW exited the fourth inning with an 11-0 lead. 
 
Purchase had no response in the top half of the fifth inning. OW would hold on to win again in five innings, this time by a final score of 11-0. 
 
Ashley Pierce had herself a game as she went 2-3 with two runs and three RBIs. Madison Danin continues to hit the ball well, going 2-3. Gianna DiLillo finished the game with a hit and an RBI. 
 
Madison Muehling had another incredible game behind the plate. In addition, Muehling finished game two with two hits, two runs and an RBI. Jessica Tucci also had an impressive day. In the team's second game, Tucci went 2-3 with a double and two runs. Juliana Vasquez went 1-2 with a run and an RBI. 
 
Julia Pastrana got the start for OW. Pastrana allowed no runs and only three hits. Pastrana faced 18 batters and struck out four. 
 
Next up, the Panthers will hit the road as they are set to take on the Dolphins of the University of Mount Saint Vincent, tomorrow, April 28 at 12 PM for a Skyline Conference doubleheader. Following that, the team will travel to take on Manhattanville University on May 4 at 12 PM.
