Men’s Volleyball Wrapped the 2024 Season Against Sarah Lawrence and Manhattanville on Saturday Afternoon

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury men's volleyball played their final two matches of the season on Saturday afternoon at a tri-match hosted by Sarah Lawrence College. The Panthers were defeated in both matches, 3-0.
 
Match One- SUNY Old Westbury (0) – Sarah Lawrence (3)

The Panthers put up a strong fight throughout the match against the Gryphons. In the first set, OW was able to put up six kills as a team. On the other side of the net, the Gryphons finished with 15 kills as a team. The Panthers were edged out by the Gryphons who took the opening set, 25-18.

In the second set, Old Westbury recorded their highest team total kills of the match with seven. Despite their efforts, the Panthers had one of their weakest sets of the day. The Gryphons took the second set by a final score of 25-14.

The third set of the match would also finish in favor of the Gryphons. The Panther struggled to keep up with SLC's intensity. Despite this, the Panthers still finished with six kills as a team and only five errors.

The Gryphons took the final set by a score of 25-19 and defeated the Panthers in the match, 3-0.

Anthony Moyett led the team with 10 kills, a block and six digs. James Seraphin had three kills, one service ace, and three blocks. Kosta Anagnostou had two blocks and 10 assists throughout the match.
 
Match Two- SUNY Old Westbury (0) – Manhattanville (3)
 
The Panthers put up a strong fight with the Valliants throughout the three sets. In the opening set of the match, Old Westbury finished with a combined six kills. Despite their efforts, Manhattanville had a much stronger attack, recording 15 kills as a team. The Panthers fell short in the opening set and were taken down, 25-17.
 
In the second set of the match, the Panthers bounced back and gave the Valliants a run for their money. The Panthers put out nine kills as a unit and were in the fight until the very end of the set. OW was within one point when the score reached 21-21. Unfortunately, the team could not find any momentum. The Panthers were defeated 25-20 in the second set. 
 
In what would be the final set of the match, the Panthers saw the most difficulty. OW was only able to notch three kills in the final set. The Valliants recorded 11 kills and walked away with the third set victory, 25-14. The Valliants took the match, 3-0.
 
Anthony Moyett led the team in kills with eight. Moyett also finished the match with 13 digs. Kosta Anagnostou had three kills and five set assists. Another leader for the Panthers was Ashel Santos who finished the match with two kills and a block.
 
The Panthers finish their first official season with an overall record of 2-22. The team was able to secure its first win in program history against Yeshiva back in March. The Panthers finished the season with two conference wins. OW will welcome several new recruits along with many veteran returners next year as the team continues to grow and develop.
