Softball Dominates With Another Conference Sweep Over Sarah Lawrence on Senior Day

 
OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury softball team put on a show on Friday night as the team swept Sarah Lawrence College in a conference doubleheader. The final scores were 14-0 and 10-1, respectively.
 
With these victories, the Panthers advance to 21-10 on the year and hold a conference record of 11-5.
 
In between the games, the Panthers honored their nine senior/graduating student-athletes. 
 
Game One- SUNY Old Westbury (14) – Sarah Lawrence (0) [Five Innings]
 
The Panthers started things off strong, putting up five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Ashley Pierce kicked things off with a sacrifice fly, scoring Natalie Intrieri. Later in the inning, Gianna Ventiere doubled to center field that scored Gianna DiLillo. Jessica Tucci then hit an RBI single to right center that scored Ventiere. To close the scoring in the first, Juliana Vasquez hit an RBI single to center field to score Tucci.
 
The Gryphons wouldn't score in the top of the second inning. The Panthers had their biggest half inning of the day in the second inning.
 
Pierce had another RBI single that would score Alaina Reilly. Madison Danin hit another double for an RBI, scoring Pierce. The Gryphons walked in a run as Tucci drew a walk.
 
The highlight of the inning, and perhaps the game came when Heather Dillon hit an inside the park grand slam to score four runs from Tucci, Ventiere, DiLillo and Dillon.
 
With a 12-0 lead, the Panthers added on two more runs in the bottom of the third to round out their scoring. Pierce would score on a wild pitch and Tucci hit another RBI single to score Danin.
 
The Gryphons had no answer to the strong pitching from Old Westbury, led by Taylor Murphy.
 
Old Westbury walked away with the game one victory in five innings by a final score of 14-0.
 
Ashley Pierce went 2-2 at the plate with two runs and two RBIs. Madison Danin also went 2-2, with thee runs, and an RBI. Gianna DiLillo had a strong game at the dish as she had three hits and two runs.
 
Gianna Ventiere, who started the game behind the plate had a strong game. Ventiere finished 3-3 at the plate with two runs and an RBI. Jessica Tucci also had a good game, going 2-2 with two runs and three RBIs. Heather Dillon had the inside the park grand slam for four RBIs.
 
In the circle, Taylor Murphy faced all 15 batters for the Gryphons in her complete game shutout. Myrphy allowed only two hits and struck out seven batters.
 
Game Two- SUNY Old Westbury (10) – Sarah Lawrence (1) [Five Innings]
 
In the second game of the day, the Panthers started things off strong with four runs in the bottom of the first. Madison Danin had yet another RBI double to score Natalie Intrieri. Later in the inning, Giann Ventiere also had a double to left center to score Gianna DiLillo and Danin. Angelina Fernandez had a single to left field to drive in Ventiere.
 
In the second inning, the Panthers offense came out just as strong. Danin had another RBI double to right center this time for three RBIs, scoring Ashley Pierce, Alaina Reilly and Intrieri. Gianna Ventiere had an incredible inning where she hit a triple to score Danin and then scored on a passed ball.
 
With a 9-0 lead, the Panthers let up a run to Sarah Lawrence in the top of the fourth inning.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, the Panthers answered with a run of their own. Faith Binaso who entered the game to play catcher doubled to left center to score Pierce.
 
The Gryphons would not answer the Panthers in the fifth inning and OW took the victory in five innings. The final score was 10-1 in favor of Old Westbury.
 
The Panthers had several performers with impressive games. Natalie Intrieri went 2-2, scoring two runs. Madison Danin went 2-2 at the dish with two runs and four RBIs. Gianna DiLillo finished with a hit, and a run to give herself four total hits on the day.
 
Gianna Ventiere had another impressive game, going 2-2 with two runs and three RBIs. Faith Binaso, Phylicia Cangemi and Angelina Fernandez each notched hits in the game.
 
Hailey Ragozine got the start for the Panthers. Ragozine threw four impressive innings, facing 15 batters. Ragozine allowed only one hit and one run. Ragozine finshed with five strikeouts. Christina Ravo made a relief appearance where she faced three batters. Ravo struck out two of them and did not allow a hit or run.
 
Next up, the Panthers will wrap up the regular season on the road with a Skyline Conference battle against Manhattanville University tomorrow Saturday, May 4. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 12 PM. Following that, the Panthers will wait to see where they will be seeded for the Skyline Conference playoffs.
