Men’s Soccer Overpowers Medgar Evers to Secure Win on Saturday

OLD WESBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer team defeated the Cougars of Medgar Evers College on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 3-0. 
 
With this non-conference victory, the Panthers advance to 3-2 on the campaign. 
 
The Panthers played with and showed intensity throughout the entire match. The team's first goal would come just under the 49-minute mark. Jose Sandoval found Ismael Ruiz who scored the Panther's first goal. 
 
With a 1-0 lead over the Cougars, the Panthers held on and went into halftime with the advantage. 
 
Coming out of the break, the Panthers had several strong looks and opportunities. The team managed to score once again just over 73 minutes into the game as, this time, it was Sandoval who found the back of the net himself.
 
With just about six minutes to play, Old Westbury tacked on another goal as Sandoval struck again. This time he was assisted by Henrik Ropstad and Tyler Tesoriere
 
The Panthers would hold on and walk away with the victory. In the end, the Panthers took down the Cougars by a final score of 3-0. 
 
Jose Sandoval had himself a day as he finished with two goals, one assist and took four total shots. Off the bench, Ismael Ruiz recorded one goal on one shot attempt. 
 
Henrik Ropstad and Tyler Tesoriere each finished the game with an assist. 
 
In goal, Paul DeGennaro got the start. DeGennaro held the Cougars scoreless and finished the game with five saves on five shots on goal and nine total shots. 
 
The Panthers will return to action tomorrow at 1:30 PM as they play host to the Sound of Five Towns College. Following that, the Panthers will take on a conference rival on Wednesday, September 18 against the Valiants of Manhattanville University. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
