Men’s Soccer and Five Towns Hold Each Other to a 2-2 Tie on Sunday

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer team and Five Towns College tied on Sunday afternoon. The final score was 2-2.
 
After this contest, the Panthers move to 3-2-1 on the 2024 season. The team is set to enter a stretch of seven consecutive conference games.
 
This afternoon's contest got off to a fast start for the Sound of Five Towns College as they scored their opening goal just under two minutes into the game. Andre Hickling scored for the Sound and was assisted by Sebastian Cuenca.
 
With a 1-0 lead, the Sound held the Panthers in check for a bulk of the first half. The Panthers only managed to take one shot attempt throughout the entire first half.
 
The Panthers let up another goal to the Sound off a penalty kick by Sebastian Cuenca.
 
The Sound took a 2-0 lead and would hold onto it for the remainder of the first half.

In the second half, the Panthers came out with a newfound intensity on the offensive side of things.
 
At around the 64-minute mark, Ryan Persaud managed to find the back of the net to cut the Panthers deficit to just one goal.
 
The Panthers brought the energy and had several good looks but could not capitalize until just about the 78-minute mark.
 
Tiago Tirado would score the game tying goal for the Panthers thanks to an assist from Ashel Santos on a corner kick.
 
Neither team would score throughout the remainder of the game. The Panthers and Sound would finish things in a tie with a final score of 2-2.
 
For the Panthers, the offense looked much better in the second half as the team took a total of nine shots and had four of them on-target.
 
Ryan Persaud and Tiago Tirado each finished with a goal.
 
In net, James Ackermann got the start. He finished with two saves but allowed the two Sound goals. Paul DeGennaro saw the pitch for just about 25 minutes and finished with two saves.
 
Next up, the Panthers will continue their Skyline Conference play. The team will play host to Manhattanville University on Wednesday, September 18 at 3:30 PM.
