Men’s Soccer Falls to Manhattanville in Close Finish on Wednesday Afternoon

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer team was taken down by the Valiants of Manhattanville University on Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 1-0.

This was the Panthers first conference matchup on their home field. With this loss, the Panthers fall to 3-3-1 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

The Panthers put up a strong fight throughout the first half as they held Manhattanville's powerful offense to just one goal.

The Valiants goal came as both sides scrambled for the ball right in front of the Panthers' goal. The Valiants scored the game's lone goal thanks to Kenneth Suqui who was assisted by Mason Chetti.

Manhattanville went into halftime with a 1-0 lead over Old Westbury.

In the second half, the Panthers' offense had better luck in the offensive end. They took a total of five shots with two of them being on target in the latter half compared to the opening half where they only took one shot.

Despite their efforts on the attacking end, the Panthers could not answer and find the back of the net throughout the remainder of the game. The Valiants took this one by a final score of 1-0.

Roobens Celine and Ismael Perez took the Panthers two shots on goal. In net, Paul DeGennaro got the start. DeGennaro finished the game with 10 saves and allowed just one goal on 13 on-target shots.

Next up, the Panthers will continue conference play with a battle against the Dolphins of the University of Mount Saint Vincent. That game will take place at Panther Park and will begin at 11 AM.
