Women’s Volleyball Dominates Medgar Evers on Thursday Night

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. -  The SUNY Old Westbury women's volleyball team was victorious on Thursday night over the Cougars of Medgar Evers College. The Panthers swept the match, 3-0. 
 
Old Westbury improves to 4-7 on the season. The Panthers currently sit at 1-2 in conference play. 
 
Throughout the match, the Panthers took advantage of their serving as the team finished the night with 23 service aces. 
 
In the first match, Old Westbury came out firing as they recorded 16 kills as a team compared to just two from Medgar Evers. The Panthers played a relatively clean set with just four total errors. The Panthers took the night's opening set, 25-11. 
 
The Panthers saw just 16 total attacks in the second set while holding the Cougars to seven points. The Panthers would go on to take the second set, 25-7. 
 
In what would be the final set, the Panthers took an early lead and never looked back. The team combined for nine kills and 20 total attacks with a hitting percentage of 25. Old Westbury would walk away with the third set, 25-14 and swept the match 3-0.
 
Stephanie Maser led the team in kills with 10. Paige Herbert had a strong night as she finished with seven kills and five digs. Kasey Coppola finished with five kills. Stephanie Samulade recorded 16 assists and four aces. Shaniyah McAllister and Sharon Kim would each finish with four aces as well. 
 
Next up, the Panthers will hit the road for a conference match against Sarah Lawrence College. The Panthers face off against the Gryphons on Tuesday, October 14 at 6 PM.
