Women’s Volleyball Unsuccessful Against Mount Saint Mary on Wednesday Night

NEWBURGH, N.Y. -  The SUNY Old Westbury women's volleyball team was defeated by the Knights of Mount Saint Mary College on Wednesday night. The Knights swept the Panthers, 3-0.
 
Old Westbury drops to 3-7 overall on the campaign. The Panthers hold a 1-2 Skyline Conference record.
 
The Knights' offensive attack shined in the first set as they finished with 40 total attacks and 14 kills compared to just six kills by the Panthers. Despite this, the Panthers managed to stay competitive as they took advantage of seven errors from MSMC. Old Westbury would fall in the opening set, 25-20.
 
In the second set, the Panthers struggled to find their groove in what would be their lowest scoring set of the night. OW would see just nine kills on 35 total attacks along with 11 errors as a team. The Knights took the second set, 25-17.
 
In what would be the final set of the night, the Panthers put up a strong attack as they finished with 12 kills as a team. The two teams went back and forth throughout the match with a close finish. The Knights would hold on and take the third set, 25-22.
 
Old Westbury would fall in three straight sets to Mount Saint Mary, dropping to 1-2 in conference play thus far.
 
Stephanie Maser led the Panthers in kills as she finished with 11. Maser also recorded 10 digs. Stephanie Velez played well as she recorded five kills. Paige Herbert finished the match with five kills and a block. Nicole Zugnoni played well at the net with three blocks. Katia Gomez recorded 18 assists and 10 digs.
 
Next up, the Panthers return to action, tomorrow, October 8. Old Westbury will play host to Medgar Evers for a non-conference match from the Clark Center Gymnasium. The match is set to begin at 7 PM.
