The SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball team was defeated 55-29 by St. Joseph's Long Island from the John A. Danzi Genter Gym.
The Panthers (1-6, 0-6 Skyline) struggled out of the gate, shooting 0-for-10 from the field in the opening quarter to fall behind, 19-0. The second quarter saw more action from Old Westbury, out-scoring the Golden Eagles 12-8, and putting together an eight-point run that saw four points from
Kasey Coppola. The run brought the Panthers within 15 at the half, 27-12.
St. Joseph's would net the first five points of the second half, but the Panthers once again responded with a run, scoring the next 10 in a row that saw three-pointers from both
Thalia Fowler and
Kyla Moore to make it a 10-point game, 32-22. In total, the Panthers would hold the Golden Eagles to just three field goals in both the second and third quarters. The Panthers went cold from the floor again to end the contest, allowing St. Joe's to end the contest on a 19-point run.
Coppola led Old Westbury with seven points.
Brianne Belizaire led with 10 rebounds and seven steals in the effort. Moore had five assists.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, December 13 at 12:00 pm at Farmingdale.
