The SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball team tangled with the Rams of Farmingdale State, falling 66-48. The loss sets the Panthers at 1-7 on the season and 0-7 in Skyline Conference play. Farmingdale improved to 5-4 (4-3 Skyline).
The contest opened on an even footing, with the score tied three times through the first five minutes. Knotted at eight,
Kasey Coppola provided five points for the Panthers. Back-to-back layups from Shyann Parker gave the Rams a lead to break the stalemate and eventually lead, 14-11, after the first quarter.
The first four points of the second quarter would also be scored by the home team to break the lead open to seven points. Four points from
Thalia Fowler and a foul shot from
Aissata Kone brought the Panthers back within one possession, 18-16. However, a 16-2 run in response by Farmingdale created an insurmountable lead for Old Westbury.
Kone topped the Panthers with 15 points and added five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Fowler followed with 14 points and a team-leading 12 rebounds for a double-double while also leading Old Westubry with four assists and four steals. Koppola also reached double digit rebounds (10), while leading with three blocks and adding nine points.
Old Westbury steps out of league play to end the calendar year on Monday, December 15 to host Medgar Evers at 7:00 p.m. from the Clark Athletic Center.
