Softball Drops Opening Games Against Milwaukee School of Engineering and Plymouth State at THE Spring Games on Sunday

CLERMONT, Fla. – The SUNY Old Westbury softball team dropped their first two games at THE Spring Games in Clermont, Florida this afternoon. The Panthers fell in the opening game to the Raiders of the Milwaukee School of Engineering, 5-1 then the Panthers of Plymouth State University, 16-5.
 
The Panthers now fall to 0-2 on the young season.
 
Game One- SUNY Old Westbury (1) - Milwaukee School of Engineering (5)

The Panthers got off to a strong defensive start as they shut down the first six batters they faced in the opening innings.
 
MSOE got the scoring going in the top of the third inning on a triple to left center which scored two runs.
 
With a two-run lead, the Raiders added another run in the top of the fourth, growing their lead to 3-0.
 
The Panthers got going in the scoring column when Zoe Rivera homered to left center field, making it a 3-1 game.
 
MSOE tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh. The Panthers were unable to spark a comeback despite stranding a runner in the bottom of the seventh. The Raiders would take the game by a final score of 5-1.
 
Alaina Reilly played well as she finished the game with two hits, and a walk. Zoe Rivera dominated in her first game for the Panthers. Rivera went 3-3 with an RBI, a home run and a stolen base.
 
Layla Ramos threw four innings where she allowed just one run and four hits. Ramos struck out one batter. In relief, Hailey Ragozine tossed three innings and allowed three hits and strikeout a batter.
 
Game Two- SUNY Old Westbury (5) – Plymouth State (16) [Five Innings]

Old Westbury got things going early in game two. In the top of the first inning, Alaina Reilly scored thanks to a double from Zoe Rivera. Plymouth State responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the first.
 
The Panthers added four more runs in the top of the second when Morgan Albright homered to right field, Rivera doubled again to score Pulsonetti, and Ashley Pierce doubled, scoring Rivera and Juliana Vasquez.
 
Plymouth State responded right away with runs of their own to take a 8-5 lead after the second inning.
 
It would be the Panthers of Plymouth State the rest of the way on the scoreboard as they tacked on eight more runs throughout the final innings. The Panthers of Plymouth State took the game in five innings, 16-5.
 
For Old Westbury, Zoe Rivera led the way as she went 2-3 from the plate with two RBIs, one run and two doubles. Morgan Albright tallied two hits with an RBI and a run. Ashley Pierce went 1-3 from the plate and recorded two RBIs.
 
Next up, the Panthers will return to action tomorrow, Monday, March 17 at THE Spring Games. The Panthers will face off against the Knights of SUNY Geneseo at 10:30 AM and Eastern Connecticut State at 1:00 PM.
