Men’s Volleyball Falls to St. Joseph’s-Long Island and Mount Saint Vincent at Tri-Match on Saturday

PATCHOUGE, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury men's volleyball program was defeated in both matches of Saturday's tri-match. The tri-match was hosted by St. Joseph's-Long Island and also featured Mount Saint Vincent.
 
Old Westbury now falls to 3-7 overall on the year. The Panthers hold a 1-3 Skyline Conference record.
 
SUNY Old Westbury vs St. Joseph's-Long Island- Match One

The Panthers and Golden Eagles played a close three-sets. For Old Westbury, they managed to stay in the fight in the first set as they fell by just five points. In the opening set, Old Westbury recorded six kills and had 26 total attacks.
 
In the second set, the Panthers struggled to match the Golden Eagles' intensity. Old Westbury suffered nine errors of their own which set them back and allowed St. Joseph's-Long Island to take the second set, 25-11.
 
In what would be the final set of the match, the Panthers were able to keep it close. Old Westbury fell 25-23 despite allowing 17 kills from the Golden Eagles.
 
Damian Villamil finished the match with five kills. Liam Eisel recorded four kills, seven assists, six blocks and five digs.  Jose Lorenzo Santos recorded 15 digs.
 
SUNY Old Westbury vs University of Mount Saint Vincent- Match Two

In the Panthers' second match of the day, they fell to the Dolphins in three sets.
 
In the opening set, the Panthers finished with 29 total attacks and eight kills. Despite this, the Dolphins had 13 kills. The Panthers were unable to respond and would fall to the Dolphins 25-17 in the opening set.


In the second set, Old Westbury remained in the fight while only recording four kills. The Panthers fell to 25-22 in the closest set of the match.
 
In what would be the final set of the afternoon for Old Westbury, the Panthers came up short once again as they could not respond to the Dolphins' attacking intensity. UMSV took the third set, 25-21.
 
Torrence Fredercks finished with seven kills and a block. Damian Villamil had four kills. Ashel Santos recorded two aces as well as 11 assists.
Next up, the Panthers will continue conference play as the team will rematch the Dolphins of Mount Saint Vincent on Monday, March 3. The Panthers will travel to Riverdale, N.Y. for the 6 PM match.
