Softball Ends Week at THE Spring Games with Dominant Win Over Knox on Saturday

CLERMONT, Fla. – The SUNY Old Westbury softball team ended things on a winning note at THE Spring Games in Orlando, Florida. The Panthers fell to the Storm of Simpson College first, 8-2 but then defeated the Prairie Fire of Knox, 14-0.
 
The Panthers now sit at 1-9 on the 2025 campaign.
 
Game One- SUNY Old Westbury (2) – Simpson (8)
 
Simpson got going early with the scoring as they would homer to left center field to find a 1-0 lead. Simpson poured on another run in the third inning.
 
The Storm would put up another five runs over the next few innings to make it a 7-0 lead going into the bottom of the sixth inning.
 
Madison Danin came up big in the sixth inning for the Panthers as she launched a two-run homer to left center field. Thanks to Danin's two-run shot, the Panthers now trailed 7-2.
 
Simpson scored once again in the seventh inning to make it 8-2 on the scoreboard. The Storm would take the game, 8-2.
 
Madison Danin led the way as she finished with a homer, walk and two RBIs. Amanda Varela went 2-3 at the plate. Madison Muehling, Phylicia Cangemi, Zoe Rivera, and Ashley Pierce each finished the game with a hit.
 
Layla Ramos got the start and threw six innings. Ramos struck out two batters and allowed just three earned runs and two walks.
 
Game Two- SUNY Old Westbury (14) – Knox (0) [Five Innings]
 
The Panthers offense came to play in this game as the team recorded 11 hits in total.
 
Old Westbury got the scoring started early as Ashley Pierce walked to score Alaina Reilly.
 
The Panthers would add another run in the second inning thanks to an RBI single from Madison Danin.
 
OW held their 2-0 lead until the fourth inning when they tacked on another five runs. The highlight of the fourth inning was Madison Muehling's two RBI inside the park home run.
 
After the fourth inning, Old Westbury led 7-0. The Panthers scored seven runs in the top of the seventh inning.
 
Old Westbury held strong in the bottom of the fifth inning and would take the game in just five innings, 14-0.
 
Alaina Reilly went 2-3 at the dish and walked once. Zoe Rivera went 2-2 with a walk and a run. Madison Danin went 2-2 at the plate and recorded a run. Madison Muehling finished the game with two RBIs and an inside the park home run. Faith Binaso, Gianna Pulsonetti, Juliana Vasquez, and Phylicia Cangemi each recorded a hit.
 
Hailey Ragozine got the start and recorded the win. Ragozine finished with a strikeout and allowed just two hits. Ragozine faced 14 batters. In relief, Taylor Murphy faced three batters and allowed just one hit.
 
Next up, the Panthers will return home for their home opener. The Panthers will take on Baruch College on Thursday, April 3. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 3 PM from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
