Ramos Named Skyline Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week for Softball

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Skyline Conference has announced their weekly award winners from April 7-14. Layla Ramos has been named this week's Co-Pitcher of the Week for softball.

For the Panthers, the team went 5-1 this past week with sweeps of Hunter and York. The Panthers split with the Hawks of SUNY New Paltz. Old Westbury looks to capitalize on this momentum as they head into Skyline Conference play.

Layla Ramos continues to impress in the circle as the Panthers' ace. Ramos picked up a pair of wins this week where she tossed two complete games for the Panthers. 

Against Hunter, Ramos tossed a complete game shutout where she allowed just five hits on no runs. The senior lefty struck out five batters.

Against the Hawks of SUNY New Paltz, in the win, Ramos tossed another complete game where she allowed just one run. Ramos allowed five hits while striking out four batters. 

Ramos swung the bat in both games, finishing with a hit in each game. 

Currently, Ramos ranks third in the Skyline Conference in ERA with an earned run average of 3.13. She also holds the sixth lowest opposing batting average across conference pitchers. Ramos ranks in the top 10 in batter struck out. She is tied for the eighth most wins across Skyline pitchers.

Next up, the Panthers face a week filled with Skyline Conference play. Old Westbury will face off against the Knights of Mount Saint Mary this afternoon at 4 PM. Following that doubleheader, the Panthers will take of St. Joseph's-Long Island on Thursday, April 17 and Farmingdale State College on Saturday, April 19.
