Softball Splits with St. Joseph’s-Long Island on Thursday Afternoon in Skyline Conference Matchup

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury softball team was defeated in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's-Long Island and were victorious in the second game. The final scores were 3-2 and 8-3, respectively. 
 
Old Westbury advances to 12-12 overall on the season with a Skyline Conference record of 4-2. 
 
Game One- SUNY Old Westbury (2) – St. Joseph's-Long island (3)
 
Old Westbury took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Ashley Pierce doubled to right center, bringing home Alaina Reilly, and then scored on a failed pickoff attempt. 
 
The Panthers' offense was stifled from there on, recording only one additional hit over the remaining six innings.
 
St. Joseph's University Long Island responded in the sixth inning, capitalizing on a fielding error and a single by Brianna Bove, which led to three unearned runs. This surge gave the Golden Eagles a 3-2 lead, which they maintained through the final inning. The Panthers had an opportunity to rally in the seventh inning but were unable to overcome the defensive pressure of the Golden Eagles. 
 
For the Panthers, Ashley Pierce went 1-for-3, with a double and an RBI while Alaina Reilly assisted with a run. Madison Danin recorded the Panthers only other hit. 
 
Layla Ramos struck out three batters while allowinf four hits and no earned runs from the circle. 
 
Game Two- SUNY Old Westbury (8) – St. Joseph's- Long Island (3)
 
The Golden Eagles took an early 3–0 lead in the second inning, capitalizing on a fielding error and an RBI single. However, the Panthers responded swiftly in the bottom of the second, scoring three runs to tie the game. 
 
Ashleigh Stewart doubled to left center, driving in two runs, and Hillary Bennett followed with an RBI double, bringing Stewart home. Old Westbury continued their offensive surge, adding runs in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to secure the win.
 
For the Panthers, Ashleigh Stewart went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs. Hillary Bennett went 2-for-3, with a double, and an RBI. Kaylin McDonald, Alaina Reilly and Ashley Pierce each also recorded hits and RBIs. 
 

Hailey Ragozine was impressive from the circle. Ragozine struck out six batters while allowing no earned runs. 
 
Next up, the Panthers continue Skyline Conference play with a
matchup against the Rams of Farmingdale State College. The Panthers face off against the Rams on the road on Saturday, April 19 starting at 12 PM.
