Softball Advances to Skyline Conference Double Elimination Tournament After Shutting Out #6 Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury softball team is moving on after defeating the Dolphins of the University of Mount Saint Vincent. The Panthers defeated the Dolphins in the single elimination game, 7-0.
 
Old Westbury heads to the double elimination tournament for the second season in a row, this time as the number three seed.

The Panthers scored their first run in the bottom of the second inning after Madison Danin got things going with a leadoff single to right field. Ashleigh Stewart then singled to right field to advance Danin. Amanda Varela then advanced both runners thanks to a sacrifice bunt.
 
Juliana Vasquez had the RBI single to left field that allowed Danin to score making it a 1-0 game in Old Westbury's favor.
 
The Panthers saw a big inning in the bottom of the fifth, with four runs scoring. Vasquez led off with another single. She would then score on the next at-bat thanks to a UMSV error after Madison Muehling reached on a bunt single.
 
Zoe Rivera would then hit a double to left field which scored Muehling. After a pitching change from the Dolphins, the Panthers saw another two runs thanks to an RBI double from Alaina Reilly who scored Rivera and then managed to score herself after another fielding error by the Dolphins.
 
Leading 5-0, the Panthers added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Muehling launched a home run over the center field fence for two RBIs.
 
The Panthers would hold on and retired the only three UMSV batters they faced in the seventh. Old Westbury walked away with the victory, 7-0.
 
Madison Muehling dominated as she finished with two hits, three RBIs, two runs and a home run. Zoe Rivera recorded three hits, one RBI, one run and a stolen base. Alaina Reilly went 2-4 at the dish and finished with one RBI and a run.
 
Juliana Vasquez went a perfect 3-3 at the dish and finished with an RBI and two runs. Madison Danin finished the night with a hit and a run. Ashleigh Stewart went a perfect 2-2 at the dish.
 
From the circle, Layla Ramos was impressive as she threw a complete game shutout. Ramos allowed just two hits and struck out six batters.
 
Next up, the Panthers will face the Rams of Farmingdale State College in the first game of the Skyline Conference Softball Double Elimination Tournament. The game will be hosted by FSC and will take place on Farmingdale State's campus. First pitch is scheduled for 5 PM.
