Softball Suffers Narrow Defeat Against Farmingdale State in the Opening Game of the Skyline Conference Double Elimination Tournament

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The #3 SUNY Old Westbury softball team was defeated by the #2 Rams of Farmingdale State College on Thursday in the opening round of the double elimination tournament in the Skyline Conference Softball Championship.
 
The Panthers got on the scoreboard first in the top of the first inning. Ashley Pierce would ground into a double play, but allowed Madison Muehling to score after she led off with a single through the right side.
 
Leading 1-0, Old Westbury added another run in the top of the third inning thanks to Madison Danin who grounded out for an RBI that allowed Zoe Rivera to score.
 
Now trailing 0-2, the Rams scored their first run in the bottom of the third inning on a sacrifice bunt, scoring their runner from third base.
 
With a 2-1 game in favor of the Panthers, the Rams found themselves in a bases loaded situation. A hit batter tied the game at 2-2 with two outs.
 
The Rams would find a gap in right field and hit an RBI single to walk off and win the game. FSC took the game, 3-2.
 
Madison Muehling impressed as she went 2-4 from the plate with a run. Zoe Rivera went 1-1 with a run. Madison Danin recorded an RBI.
 
From the circle, Hailey Ragozine was impressive. She allowed six hits and three runs while striking out four batters. Ragozine had a strong game with her glove as well as she finished with a putout and five assists.
 
The Panthers will now face the #4 Knights of Mount Saint Mary College in a win or go home battle. The second day of the Skyline Conference Softball Championship is set for Saturday, May 10 and will be hosted by the #1 Valiants of Manhattanville University. The Panthers and Knights will face off at 12:30 PM. The winner of that game will then advance and play again at 2:45 PM.
