Women’s Soccer Falls Short to John Jay in Season Opener

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer team was defeated in the season opener against John Jay on Saturday afternoon. The final score was 2-0 in favor of the Bloodhounds.
 
The Panthers now fall to 0-1 on the young season.
 
John Jay found the back of the net just about eight minutes into the first half.
 
The Panthers played strong defense to keep it a one goal game for the majority of the game.
 
Going into halftime, John Jay led 1-0.
 
The Bloodhounds would tack on another goal with just under three minutes to go.
 
John Jay walked away with the battle by a final score of 2-0.
 
For the Panthers, Taryn Hilke had the team's only shot on goal. Kristen Gallagher impressed in goal as she recorded eight saves. Throughout the game, Gallagher and the Panthers faced 22 total shots with 10 being on-target.
 
Next up, the Panthers will look to bounce back with a matchup against fellow Skyline Conference rival. Yeshiva University. That match will take place on Sunday, September 7 at 10:30 AM. The match will take place at Panther Park, Home of the Panthers, despite Old Westbury playing as the road team.
