Baseball Gives Back at the Special Olympics Fall Classic

HICKSVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury baseball program volunteered at the Special Olympics Fall Classic on Saturday, September 20 at Cantiague Park in Hicksville, New York.

For 15 years, Head Coach Rod Stephan and the Panthers' baseball program have participated in this event to show support and give back to the Special Olympics.

This year, the entire team and coaching staff was present to help make this event successful and run smoothly in all areas. At the event, OW baseball student-athletes were some of the first ones on-site to assist with the setup, operations, officiating, logistics and many other areas to assist the event. Throughout the day, the team cheered on participants and even handed out some of the awards at the close of the event.

Some of their duties included setting up soccer goals, bocce courts, fields and constructing the stage, ceremony and registration areas. The OW student-athletes that helped with this event were some of the last to leave to ensure there was a smooth breakdown.

Throughout the event, the team helped coach, score and cheer for various sports. In addition, OW student-athletes helped deliver lunches to all participating athletes.

The SUNY Old Westbury baseball program is proud to participate in this event annually and continuously partner with the Special Olympics. OW Baseball would like to thank the Hicksville Fire Department for their partnership and efforts with ceremonies and cooking of the food for the day. The team would also like to thank Jenine and her staff at Cantiague Park for setting up and cleaning the venue for the day.
